Stablemates Impress
"The Press” Special Service K HASTINGS. The Paeroa stablemates, Regal Ruler and Legal Ruler, were impressive when they galloped at Hastings yesterday morning in preparation for the second day of the Combined Hawke's Bay-Dannevirke Hunt meeting on Saturday. Regal Ruler was a disappointing seventh in the Braehead Hurdles on the first day and Legal Ruler did not run up to expectations in the Awanui Handicap, but both gave the impression that they could improve. Track conditions were ideal.
The weather was fine and mild and the going was firm. On the course proper Goldenise (D. Withington) ran six furlongs in Imin 18 2-ssec, the last three in 40sec. Legal Ruler (J. Panapa) covered a mile in Imin 52sec, the last three in 39sec. Legal Ruler was in front from the seven furlongs to the straight in last week’s Awanui Handicap and then faded. However, he might hang ojf better this time. Regal Ruler (J. Panapa) ran a mile in Imin 49sec, the last three in 40sec and galloped boldly throughout. Luana and Panair Maid went together for five furlongs in Imin 3-ssec, the last three in 39 4-ssec. Luana is well but
may need the race in the Highgate Handicap. Jaunty (M. Lange), a form runner for the Bracelet on Saturday ran seven furlongs in Imin 3.5 2-ssec, the last three in 88 2-ssec. This was a solid solo workout.
