MARKET REMAINS FIRM; UNDERTONE STEADY

The firmer tone of the New Zealand sharemarket was maintained in quiet trading yesterday. Oil shares were a little firmer but miners eased. Australian stocks were very firm.

The best rise of the day was made by Henderson Pollard which jumped 21c to 180 c. The notes gained 10c to 170 c. Dominion Breweries reversed its easier trend by recovering 2c to 176 c. Medical Chambers, which has been strong lately, gained another 10c to 360 c.

North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op. raised its dividend foi the third year in succession after a good profit result and the new shares responded with an 8c rise to 193 c. Cantwell Creations eased 5c to 40c, in spite of a 68 per cent increase in profits and export orders which are well ahead of last year.
