Not a great matter for active people who can make use of ' the depots provided; but whati of the elderly, sick, and disabled folk who cannot reach ; a depot and have no one to ; attend to this for them? ; There are many in this category in Christchurch. This has largely been brought t about by the high cost of , labour, which is the major 1 cost in the industry. In > Christchurch, only one com--1 pany offers ’ a domestic t laundry service where a few t years ago there were three. > It was necessary to cancel the t pick-up and delivery service , because of the high cost in- , volved in the collecting and 1 delivery of relatively small - parcels. While sympathising e with elderly and sick people, we at least have depots throughout the city and suburbs where laundry may be left. There are also 5 carrier firms who would pick -up and deliver parcels for people who are indisposed.’’]
