DRINKING DRIVERS
Strong Action Sought
I (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) SYDNEY, July 26. Stronger measures against drinking drivers, including the ibannjng of all “problem drin-
kers” from the roads, have (been recommended by the Australian Medical Association.
The “Australian Medical Journal" praised the breathtesting legislation, but called for new action to rid the roads of drinking drivers. At least half of road deaths in Australia—3so2 last year—could be ascribed to alcohol, the journal said. Alcoholic or pre-alcoholic drivers must be recognised as soon as possible, the journal said. “In the interests of the community they must be eliminated from the roads while they continue to drink heavily. And, in their own interests, they should be referred for treatment”
