PROGRAMME PLEDGE $80,000 Cash To Be Paid

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 23. Arrangements have been made to pay New Zealand’s pledged cash contribution of $BO,OOO for 1970, to the World Food Programme, the Prime Minister (Sir Keith Holyoake) said today. Contribution forms part of New Zealand’s pledge of $420,000 to the programme for 1969 and 1970. The programme requests donor countries to supply about one-third of their pledge in cash and the rest in commodities. New Zealand’s contribution would again include a large proportion of dairy products and in particular the wholemilk biscuit which had been fully accepted as a valuable aid commodity by the programme, Sir Keith said. “New Zealand’s recognition of the value of the programme and of food aid in general has been marked by a 50 per cent increase in New Zealand’s pledge, to $630,000, for the period 1971-72,” he said.
