‘Wrong Advice’ To Maoris

(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 17. The Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Maclntyre) said today that his attention had been drawn to a person who was holding herself out to be an officer of the Maori and Island Affairs Department authorised to investigate unclaimed money held by the Maori Trustee. This person was at present operating in the Ruatoria area of the East Coast and was giving wrong advice to Maoris about the procedure for claming such money. There might be others doing the same in other parts of the country the Minister said. The whole purpose of publishing the lists of unclaimed moneys waj to enable persons entitled to it to claim it. There was a proper procedure to be followed, Mr Maclntyre said. He advised persons interested to call at the nearest office of the department to consult a staff member.
