Incineration Project
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) SYDNEY, July 15. Two Sydney urban district councils have signed a contract to buy a giant incinerator which will burn the rubbish of more than 450,-000 Sydney residents, a sixth of the city’s population. Waverley and Woolahra Councils will finance the project, and those of Randwick, North Sydney and Marrickville have signed operating contracts. Work will begin on the site in August, and the incinerator is expected to be in operation by mid-1972. The incinerator system, among the most advanced in the world, incorporates devices against pollution. It is virtually odour-free and noiseless, and will dispose of 520 tons of refuse a day.
