Seamen Hope For Harmony (N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 16. The New Zealand Seamen’s Union said in a statement today that the inter-island ferry dispute would not have arisen had arbitration been agreed to when the men were dismissed and again when they applied for re-engagement The time taken to reach a settlement and the great expense were regretted, the union said. “We can only hope harmony will now return to the industry and that all parties will try to work amicably together in the interests of efficiency, safety, and discipline,” the union said. “Discipline is more palatable to the disciplined if it is' based on mutual respect and understanding.”
