Visit Of Party To Chch
Sixteen members of the 1971 course from the Imperial Defence College, London, will pay a brief visit to Christchurch at the week-end. They will be met at Christchurch Airport tomorrow afternoon by Air Commodore E. C. Gartrell, officer commanding the Royal New Zealand Air Force Training Group.
The group is headed by Major-General V. F. E. Crum the senior Army member on the directing staff of the college. Among the officers are representatives from the British Armed Forces and Ministry of Defence, the Jamaican Constabularly, the German Army* the British Diplomatic Service, the Royal Netherlands Air Force, the United States Department of Defence, the Belgian Foreign Service, and the United States Army. Tomorrow evening, they will attend a cocktail party in Fendalton. On Sunday morning, the group will fly to Queenstown aboard an R.N.Z.A.F. aircraft
After returning on Monday, the group will visit Lincoln College to see something of the activities of the Wool Research Institute and the Agricultural Engineering Institute. After lunch at Wigram, the party will leave for Wellington. Besides Australia and New Zealand, the group will also visit Indonesia. Malaysia and Singapore. The purpose of the tour is to enable selected senior officers and officials to study at first-hand the political, economic and strategic problems of the countries they visit.
