(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) KANSAS CITY, July 16. A politically-powerful Negro leader who was a member of the Missouri State Legislature was shot dead yesterday. The police say, that Mr Leon Jordan, aged 65, was shot as he walked to his car about 1.45 a.m. after closing a tavern he owned and managed. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of three Negro men in a late-model saloon car, one of them armed with a shotgun. A native of Kansas City, Mr Jordan was formerly a schoolteacher and, later, a detective lieutenant in the Kansas City Police Force. He was first elected to the Missouri House in 1964. A Democrat, he was a candidate for his fourth term.
