Warning On Licences
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON. July 14. A warning that import licences for next year could depend on their performance in this licensing period was given today to representatives of the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers' Association by the Minister of Customs (Mr Adams-Schneider). The business representatives called on the Minister today to discuss import licensing, and were told the Government was anxious that the maximum number of cars should be brought into the country this year with the funds allocated. “1 want to see the market satisfied as soon as possible,” the Minister said. , “For the 1971-72 licensing year I am considering an incentive scheme which will reflect the number of units brought into the country by individual firms, and a disincentive to those firms not prepared to bring in the maximum number of cars suitable to the New Zealand market.”
