Lowther Has Mumps

The New Zealand Rugby league centre, B. Lowther (Auckland), has been forced to withdraw from the squad preparing for the second test against Great Britain on Sunday because of mumps. Lowther, aged 19, made his Kiwi debut against the tourists at Auckland last Saturday. He will return home today. The convenor of the selection panel (Mr D. L. Blanchard) said last even-

ing that Lowther had been replaced by another Auckland three-quarters, W. Redmond, who has won national selection for the first time. His father, D. Redmond, played for New Zealand in Australia in 1948 and against the Kangaroo* in this country a year later. Redmond scored two tries for the Northern XIII against Britain in the opening match of the tour, on July 8.
