Toll Of Peru Earthquake

The number of people dead and missing in the earthquake in Peru on May 31 has now been estimated at 70,000 by the Minister of Health (Major-General Rolando Caro Constantini). The general gave this figure to Mr Galo Plaza, sec-retary-general of the Organisation of American States, who visited the devastated areas in the mountainous Valley of Huaylas yesterday. The Minister said that about 50,000 people were injured and 20,000 children left orphans.
