Two writs claiming a total of $26 million were brought by an Australian mining company against a Canberra publishing firm, and a journalist The mining company, Vam, Ltd, is claiming $lO million from Maxwell Newtown, Pty, Ltd, publishers, apd a writer, Mr lan Huntley. The chairman of directors of Vam, Ltd (Mr Frank Close) is claiming $3 million from each party. The cause of action was no disclosed in either writ issued out of the Supreme Court yesterday. However, a legal spokesman for Vam, Ltd, said that the actions were brought for defamation arising out of a front page article in the July 6 issue of the “Australian Miner.”
