ROYAL TUDOR IMPROVING

“The Press” Special Service

HASTINGS. Royal Tudor, which Is to resume racing In tho Winter Cup trial,at Awapunl on Saturday, worked over an easy mile, the last half faster, with his stablemate, Tudor Lad, at Hastings yesterday morning. Royal Tudor has not done a great deal of fast work since he came back into training after a long* spell caused, through a breakdown, and he could need a race or two before he is ready to Show anything like his best. On the course proper, where the trestles were a long way out beyond the proper distance from the rail, and the going was heavy, Royal Tudor (R. Marsh) and Tudor Lad (D. Tucker) ran the last half-mile of their work in 57sec, the final three in 44sec, Tudor Lad is in the Winter Cup Trial and he would probably be the better prospect of the two. D. Tucker has been in Hastings for a few days holiday. He also rode Red And

Gray, a half-brother to Styx now with B. Dodds, when he worked with Agra (B. Dodds) over a mile in Imin 55 2-ssec, the last three in 43 2-ssec. Agra Is a form candidate tor the Manawatu Hunt Cup and he is very tit.

Jest In-Time (L. Carston) worked boldly throughout six furlongs in Imin 24 3-ssec, the last three In 42 4-ssec. She is in the Winter Cup Trial and might race well. She was a useful sixth over 10 furlongs at the Hawke’s Bay winter meeting and is improving. Strang Finish Box (I. Lawson), which will race at Woodville and then at Riccarton, where the Grand National Hurdles is his main mission, ran a mile, the last five In imin 12sec and the last three In 43sec. He is very fit and finished strongly. On the plough. Just William (R. Marsh) galloped six furlongs In Imin 23sec, the final three taking 40sec. He appeared to revel In the soft track conditions. Just William is in the Tararua Hack Handicap and could race well. Sheherazade (A. Lyndon) galloped five furlongs In Imin 6 4-ssec, picking up Irish Warrior (R. Marsh) at the four. They ran the last three together bpldly In 39 4-Ssec. This was splendid work. Irish Warrior was two lengths ahead at the finish.
