FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone centred over the North Island is moving away to the northeast as a trough over the Tasman Sea moves towards New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast.— Moderate variable winds on the coast, but fresh and gusty inland; scattered rain in the ranges, with increasing cloud elsewhere; moderate temperatures. Outlook: unsettled with showers and colder south-west winds. Buller and Westland.—Fresh northerly winds; scattered rain; moderate temperatures. Outlook: showers. Marlborough Sounds.—Strong northwesterlies in exposed places; mainly cloudy, with some scattered rain tonight; moderate temperatures. Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Northwesterlies, becoming fresh in expbsed places; fine, but high cloud increasing and showers developing in the west of Nelson during the afternoon; becoming mild. Outlook: showers.
