TEACHERS’ PAY
No Delay In Negotiations (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 9. Progress on negotiations for a new salary scale for primary school teachers would be as rapid as possible, said the Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys). But he could not say when a [decision would be made. Replying to a question from Mr R. M. Barclay (Lab., New Plymouth) in Parliament today the Minister said the claims lodged by the New Zealand Educational Institute in October last year were extremely complex. At its last meeting the Educational Services Committee of the Education Department bad set up a special working party, which was due to report to the committee’s next meeting, on July 30. Mr Taiboys said he had received a number of letters from individual teachers and! branches of the institute, complaining at the time taken for consideration of the claims. These people did not under-j stand the complexity of the! matter, he said.
