Electricity Review?

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 8. Electricity charges may have to be reviewed if the greatest degree of industrial development is to be obtained, according to the annual report of the Industries and Commerce Department The report was tabled in Parliament today. Major new industries based on natural resources would be substantial users of electric power and their sponsors were seeking concessional rates, the report said.

“However, power generation is becoming increasingly costly as the dams have to be sited in more difficult and less economic locations,” the report said. “In these circumstances it may be necessary to review the present tariff structure for electric power, including the relationship between domestic and commercial rates, if the optimum degree of Industrial development is to be obtained.”
