Fiftieth test
The Rugby league test between Great Britain and New Zealand at Auckland on Saturday will be the fiftieth between the two nations since the pioneer All Golds toured England 63 years ago.
Great Britain holds a distinct advantage over New Zealand, having won 33 of the previous internationals, lost 15 and drawn one. Touring British teams have won 18 of the 28 tests played in this country (although the Kiwis are ahead, 7-5, in post-World War 11 matches) while New Zealand has won only five and drawn one of the 21 games In England.
The record winning margin was 52-20, set by the first Great Britain (then Northern Union) team to play in New Zealand in 1910. Britain’s biggest defeats were both inflicted at Auckland in 1962, 19-0 in the first test and 27-8 in the return match.
The representatives of the two leagues have also met four times in World Cup series, Britain winning in 1954, 1960 and 1968 and New Zealand being successful in 1957.
