SKI-RACING PROMOTION
New Body’s Plans <N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. July 7. A body formed late last year for the promotion of ski rac ing has recently been approved 1 by the New Zealand Ski Association and legally incorporated. It is the Ski Racers and Officials Federation (N.Z.) and has as its alms the improving of the racing standard in New Zealand and the sponsoring of teams to Australia and Europe for competition in the international A and B grade eir-l cults.
The national committee is' composed entirely of racers who have had experience in Europe or the United States within the last five years. The president is Mr S. Blakely (Auckland), the manager of the 1968 Grenoble Olympic Team. Mr W. F. Hunt, many times New Zealand champion, and Mr S. Chaffey, a past South Island champion, are the vice-presi-dents.
The federation’s aim for 1970 is to establish In New Zealand what is standard European practice paying racers their second'dass rail fare from their hotaie town to the race meeting. A seven-race series along the lines of the World Cup will be established this season. Competitors will take their best four results to count for the title, which should give an accurate indication of the con-sistently-best racers.
