Britain And E.E.C.
Sir, —It is extremely un- i likely that Britain will ever ; go into the European Eco- ; nomic Community with its | [system of producer subsidies, ; [which raises prices to the ; point at which consumers re- j fuse to buy. Subsidies must , be paid at the consumer end . to encourage sales. The social j debt system with its rising i national debt has to go, as j the first step towards eco- i nomic stability. It is hard to ■ predict how long the consum- < ers will stand the pressure of ■ the trial-and-error system imposed on them by the con- | flicts between the incompetent politicians who pose as ] experts. Some day the people ; will exert their power as masters and license the bankers ; as the experts of the distri-. butive system. They will be told of the desired results. If they refuse or claim they don’t know how, others will be appointed at higher licence fees until some are found who know how, and will do the job.—Yours, etc., W. B. BRAY. Leeston, June 27, 1970.
