FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A cold front crossing New Zealand is accompanied by rain and should be followed by cooler south-westerlies and showers, especially in the west. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate north to north- . west winds at first with a few showers mainly near the western ranges; fresh, cool south-westerlies likely in the afternoon with showers becoming more widespread. Marlborough and Nelson.—West or north-west winds strong at times about CookStrait but moderate elsewhere; rain easing during the morning to scattered showers, especially about the high country, with some fair intervals elsewhere; rather cool. Buller and Westland.—Fresh, cool west to south-west winds; cloudy and cool with showers. Outlook: showers on the West Coast, mainly fine elsewhere. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
