Rawhiti 5, University and Carlton 4, Aranui 3i, Teachers' College 0. • Harewoad v. Digby's This match tested Harewood's strength and showed its ability to keep going until the final whistle. The first half was even territorially, and possegsionally. Only after the break did the Digby’s defence begin to weaken and make serious errors of positional play. I S. Howell and L. Rutledge, Harewood's powerful right flank, were well marked and contained for the first half, but gained more freedom later. A. Lawrence, the centre-for-ward, made soma good breaks close to the Digby's circles and her long reach was Invaluable; while t. Bayliss, the left inner, swung the ball to her right with deep passes which -kept the defence nard on the move. J. Sleeman. the goal-keeper for Harewood, was well-posi-tioned on several occasions to stop what looked like certain goals for Digby's. She cleared strongly, antf looked confident. Harewood's two goals came from S. Howell and A. Lawrence. The former had a long run down the right wing and moved in towards the circle, out-pacing the defence and timing a hard shot well to score. The second goal came from a tussle Ip front of the goal mouth. A. Lawrence pushed the loose ball hard, and mistiming on the goal-keeper's part let it bump in untouched. All the Digby's players rose to the occasion and played well. S. Symes, the right back, struck her best form for some time and her tackling and Clearing were accurate. D. ftuinn. the centre-half. Intercepted repeatedly. and lent close support to her forwards on attack. The Harewood attack being spearheaded on the right, the Digby's left flank also had a busy day. Umpires: Miss B. Maklnson and Mrs M. McGregor. Arqnul v. University Aranui. with its forwards combining well and receiving good support from the halves, looked the better teamThe backs. L. McKay and J. Morris, Played good games, their covering being sound. The halves, particularly R. Hurrell on the left, backed UP the forwards consistently. The score at half-time was 3-1 to Aranui. These three goals iwere scored by A. Sutherland, i right wing, E Wade, left Inner, 'and 8. Cowles, centre-forward.

in the second half. Aranui continued to control the match and have the territorial advantage. The other three goals came frem S. Cowles, E. Green, the left wing, and K. Noonan, the right half. Unlveralty had a bud day. lla morale aoon faded. Its playera had trouble trapping, particularly In thS circle, which gave Aranui several scoring chances. The two goals were scored by K. McDonald, the right inner, In the first half, and J. Timms, the right wing, in the second half. Umpires; Mrs Wilson and Miss G. Bawyer.

Burnside v. Carlton Carlton surprised by holding Burnside to a small winning margin. Playing without its usual right flank, Carlton rose to the occasion and battled stubbornly. Burnside, on attack consistently, was well contained by a persistent and united defenoa for the first half. The Carlton forwards showed a unwillingness to drop back and help their often-harried halves and backs. J. Buckley, playing at right half for Carlton, marked well, and her cover defence was reliable. D. Fleming, at centrehalf, showed more confidence, and supported her forwards closely on attack. Carlton'a goal came soon after the second half began, when it was down. o-t. while on attack, C. Jones, the left-inner, followed up quiekly on a loose ball to score. Burnside, showing its mastery of Short passing, was not rewarded for its many attacking movements until well Into the first half, when a penalty corner was awarded. A. Farmer, the right half, scored. The second goal came straight after Carlton scored- A. Alleway, the loft Inner, netted a crisp shot from well inside the circle, being well placed positionally. Time and again the Burnside forwards advanced to, the Carlton goal, using their inside trio of J. Moust, J. Phillips, and A. Alleway as the spearhead. These three passed well among themselves, and received good support from their three halves. PtitiUqnftd pUy was sound, and

only stubborn defence kept the scoring down. Umpiras: Misses B. Maklnson and B. Turbott. Taachors* College v. Rawhltl Rawhiti remained in Teacher!' College territory on attack for much of the match.

After a promising beginning. I the College morale and defence collapsed and allowed the score to mount. This was disappointing after last week’s glimpse of ' the team's capabilities. M, Higgins, the centre-half. Rlayad hard throughout, but icked support-from her teammates. The forwards lacked real determination and gave up easily rather than hunting tor and at half-time The forwards moved the ball round nicely and had plenty of time to distribute their Kasses especially in the second all. Both wings, K. Sutton, on the left and M- Bennett on the right, ran stroagiy and with success. the latter scored throe of her team's goals, and the former, one. Rawhiti's last goal came from the centre-forward. K. Carroll. The two backs bad the chance to play well up-fiold and wore quick to cover on defence. C. Hulslon, the left inner, played a sound game positionally, her passing being accurate. Umpires: Mrs Wilson and Mr R. Hurst.
