New Brighton presented Sacred Heart with a strong challenge in the first half of their match in the ninth round of women’s senior netball at the Hagley Courts on Saturday—but it lacked the shooting capacity of Sacred Heart, and faltered badly in the second half. Hagley and Technical had easy wins over St Nicholas and Cashmere.

Teechera' CollMe end Rlccerton were well matched, with Teachers’ Collage ahead at half-time, hut Rlccarton finally won. Results were:—Sacred Heart ST, New Brighton 22. Technical 42, Cashmere 9. Healey 14, St Nicholas 19., Rlccarton M, Teachers' Col- : The points after nine rounds ate: Sacred 18, Technical 16. Haslsy 13. Rlccarton 8, Teachare Collate 8, New Brighton 6. St Nicholas 8, Cashmere o. Good Match New Brighton gained last season's form to make Sacred Heart flght for every goal.. The half-time score of 16-12 was an indication of the superior shooting by Sacred Heart. E. Price shot extremely well at goal shoot. It. Herring, playing at goal shoot for New Brighton was good and had more of her attempts at goal been successful. the score would have been closer. J. Brownie took some nice interceptions from Sacred Heart, but the other New Brighton defence was unable to hold the Sacred Heart captain, J. Harnett, who roamed the court Sacred Heart tightened its defence In the second half ahd had its score to 10 before New Brighton scored again to 13. The Naw Brighton attack wilted as Sacred Heart pulled away to a U-goal load of 31-18, L. Morris, the goal attack for Now Brighton, snot three good goals to bring her team's score to 33 by full-time, but Sacred Heart had increased its total to A Deserved Win The match between Rlccarton and Teachers' College was very oven. The teams appeared to be well balanced, but neither has played to capacity in provious rounds. With the obvious promise the players show, both teams could bo exceptionally good. The scoring was close, the shooters In both teams maintaining a reasonable average. D. Bonnett, the College goal-attack played a strong game, but was not as nimble as D. Shearer, the Rlccartoh goabattack. who shot particularly well. J. Driver and S. relvey, the College defence, combined well but slacked on rebounds In the

second half. College was three goals ahead at half-time, the score being 13-10. Rlccarton fought back well and scored consistently to catch College at 15-all after 10 minutes, and M. Richardson and Miss Shearer shot particularly well to lead College by 28-22 at full-time. Walk-over Win Cashmere was left standing In its match against Technical. The scoring In the first half was one goal to eight, with Technical leading 24-3 at halftime. P, Taylor did her best to dodge the tight defence of Technical's S. Rogers and L. Burney, and shot three good distance goals to bring the Cashmere score to six against Technical’s 30. M. Brunten did her best to hold the Technical goal-shooter, S. Norman, away from the goal post, but Miss Norman was on good form and shot with great accuracy throughout the circle. Technical lacked a strong opponent, and did not play its best. Positional play looked a little scrappy, and its defensive play down the court lacked purpose. J. Baugham, the Cashmere goal-defence, partnering the Technical goal-attack, M. Holland, played an energetic game, but was outmanoeuvred by the adroit Mrs Holland, who could choose her shooting position with ease. Although Technical won by 44-9, Its play was often scrappy. Its score should have reached 80. Hagley Wins St Nicholas played two re-

placements from Its senior reserve team, M. Hutton replacing C. Ireland at wing-attack, and P. Mather replacing B. Nurse at goal-defence. Both substitutes did well in maintaining the Dow of positional play. The Hagley captain, C. McMaster, was replaced by L. Dawson at goal-shoot. Miss McMaster still has a calf muscle injury suffered while playing squash. st Nicholas did well to keep Hagley’s score down In the first halt. The half-time score was 16-10 to Hagley. L. Dawson, at ?oal-shoot, combined well with he Hagley attacking line-up of C. Cottrell at centre, S. Marks at wing-attack, and C. Robb. Miss Dawson's shooting was fairly good, and she moved well in the circle. But Miss Robb carried the bulk of the shooting. Hagley won 36-19.
