A Former “Miss World” To Marry
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, June 28 A former "Miss World,” Ann Sidney, of Britain, will marry an Australian television compere in Melbourne, as a result of a long-distance telephone courtship. Miss Sidney, who won the “Miss World” title in 1964, visited New Zealand early in 1965. During a brief stay in Christchurch, the attractive, pixie-faced brunette crowned the 1965 “Miss Canterbury,” Miss Ruby Foley. A Melbourne television compere, Rod McLennan, aged 31, who hosts an Australianwide television talent quest, has revealed that he and Miss Sidney, who is 26, had decided to marry, but had not' yet set the date. “We will do that after she arrives in Sydney on Monday,” he told reporters today. Mr McLennan said that Miss Sidney was travelling to Australia as a $2O assisted immigrant. He said he first met her before she won the “Miss World” title.
“It was a casual meeting. We did not see each other again until a month before I
returned to Australia earlier this year,” Mr McLennan said. “When we met again socially, we discovered that each had been following the other’s career since our original meeting.” he said. Mr McLennan said he had continued the courtship by long-distance telephone. “It cost me a fortune in overseas calls—but it was worth every cent,” he said. He and Miss Sidney would settle in Melbourne after their marriage, Mr McLennan said.
