Chinese Offer To Tibetans
(NZ.PA.-Reuter —Copyright) NEW DELHI, June 24. Tibet's Chinese rulers have offered Tibetan rebels in exile cash rewards for their weapons if they surrender, Radio Lhasa reports. The radio broadcast, an appeal by the Tibet Revolutionary Committee and Military Command, promised unconditional pardon to the rebels, an ensured livelihood and freedom to practise their religion if they gave themselves up and returned to Tibet. It offered the equivalent of between $25 and $36 to Tibletans who surrender with pistols, and graduated rewards of up at $l5OO for rifles, machine-guns and artillery.
The Chinese authorities in Tibet have made repeated offers to Tibetans who took refuge in India in 1959 with the Dalai Lama, their religious and political leader, but few appear to have returned home.
