New Plays At Riccarton
Three plays being produced in Christchurch for the first time, and a brand new play by a local author are on the list of forthcoming productions by the Riccarton Players.
The new play is "The Apple Case.” by Brian Cooper, which will be the group's entry in the Theatre Federation festival in July. Last year the Riecarton production of Mr Cooper’s earlier play, “Pigeon Park of a Tuesday Night,” won the B grade cup and other awards at the festival.
The new play is being produced by Shirley Rushton, and after the festival it will have a season in the Riccarton Players’ theatre along with another
new play, “Trexor.” by John Bowen—an English playwright and novelist well known to Christchurch audiences. Keith Cooke will he guest producer for “Trevor.”
In December the Riccarton Players’ year will be brought to a close with a major production by Alex Henderson of the Giradoux play, “The Enchanted/’
A fourth planned production—and one that is hound to arouse considerable interest—is the James Baldwin play) “Blues for Mr Charlie." This first play by the author of “Another Country” and other novels is to be produced by Taura Henderson early in 1971.
