OMAKAU “FEUD”

"The Press’’ Special Service INVERCARGILL. Feuding between racing and trotting Interests tn the Central Otago district of Omakau where the Vincent Jockey Club and the Central Otago Trotting Club race, have reached a determined stage. A special general meeting of the Vincent Jockey Club was called to consider a notice of motion “that half the club’s groperty be sold to the Central tago Trotting Club.” After being in session for some hours the meeting was postponed “because of a technicality” and another general meeting will be held on June 25.

The feuding in the district began about 12 months ago when the Trotting Conference directed that the Central Otago Trotting Club hold its meetings at Roxburgh. This the central Otago club refused to do. but after the Otago district racing committee would not give the Central Otago Trotting Club approval to race on the Omakau course on January 3, the trotting club finally raced at Roxburgh on that date.

The Otago district committee’s refusal to let the trotting club race on January 3 at Oma ka'u was because the Kurow Jockey Club has the same date. The Central Otago Trotting Club apparently feels that if if can buy a half share of the Vincent Jockey Club's property, permission cannot be refused for the club to race in January 2 or 4—dates it has applied for for next season

January 2, a Saturday, is the first day of the Southland Racing Club’s cup meeting and the

Southland club has already indicated that it will strongly object to January 2 being granted to the Central Utago Trotting Club, as it did this season The Central Otago club meeting at Roxburgh this season on January 3 was the date allocated the Southland Racing Club which avoided a clash by holding its second day on January 5. Whatever the outcome of the Omakau meeting on June 25 to “consider the Central Otago Trotting Club buying a half share of the Vincent Jockey Club's course. ’’ feeling in the district between the two factions is running high.
