Scouts’ Church Services

Hymns backed by guitars were included in the ceremonies for the annual church parade of Christchurch boy scouts in the Christchurch Cathedral yesterday afternoon.

About 1500 scouts —and the Mayor (Mr A. R. Guthrey). and Mrs Guthrey—attended the service in the Cathedral, the scouts sitting round a stage erected in the centre of the nave.

Later in the afternoon, about 500 scouts attended Mass in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Barbadoes Street. Mass was offered by Father W. G. Grounds, who also gave the sermon.

At the Christchurch Cathedral service, the Rev. N. Brooks gave Bible readings, and Mr C. Williams led the singing. The sermon was given by the Dean (the Very Rev. M. L. Underhill).
