COMMANDO FORCES
Arafat Named As Head
(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) CAIRO, June 12.
Mr Yasser Arafat, chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (P.L.0.), has been appointed commander-in-chief of all Palestine commando forces and president of its supreme military council, it was reported in Cairo yesterday. The authoritative newspaper, “Al Ahram,” said that Mr Arafat was elected last Tuesday at an emergency meeting of all resistance organisations in the Palestine Armed Struggle command in Jordan.
A centre for operations, comprising all Palestinian military leaderships, had also been formed and Jordan had been divided into military sectors, each controlled by a commander and a political representative, the newspaper said.
Committees had been formed in all refugee camps to supervise their affairs and to receive instructions directly from the Palestine central committee, which comprised representatives of all commando organisations, "Al Ahram” said.
