Charles And Lister In Joint Second Places
’ The New Zealand profes- ’ sional golfers, R. J. Charles 1 and J. M. Lister, each shared '■ second places after the first ' rounds in overseas tourna- ' ments yesterday, Reuter re- ’ ported. Charles shot a 67 in the Western open tournament at Chicago, one stroke behind the leader, S. Reid, and level with six other Americans, A. Palmer, D. Finsterwald, J. Potts, R. Lotz, T. Jacobs, and H. Royer. Reid, a 33-year-old professional with only one tournament victory in more than five years on the United States tour, established a nine-hole record at the j Beverly Country Club with his outward half in 30. i Charles had halves of 33 and I 34. In ideal scoring conditions, I 44 players in a field of 156 equalled or bettered par of 71. Lister scored a 66, one
more than the leader, P. W. Thomson (Australia), in the Martini tournament at Conway, North Wales. He shared second place with D. N. Sewell and M. Bembridge, both of Britain.
