Harold Bank’s Chances Bright After Sound Riccarton Run

Harold Bank will be Riccarton’s only runner in the Oamaru Winter Cup tomorrow, but in training yesterday he shaped as if he will be one of the top contenders.

He stayed alongside his ■well - performed stablemate, Meldie, to the end of sixfurlongs, run on the No. 1 grass in Imin 16 l-ssec. They were running over firm ground after a frost, but there was merit in their trials. The last half-mile was run in 50 l-ssee. The apprentice, R. Colville, rode Harold Bank and D. Tucker was on Meldie. Later, the hacks, Shiraz (Mein) and Uncertain (A. Eastwood), sprinted six fur-

longs in Imin 18 l-ssec and the last half-mile in 51 3-ssec. They are rival candidates for the Kakanui Hack Handicap at Oamaru. Istan Light (B. Pelling) showed a good turn of speed for a jumper in running from the half-mile in 51 3-ssec, a figure recorded earlier by Time and Tide. Walaroo (Lakin) came up with another sound trial for the Champion Hack Handicap at Oamaru, in winning a three-sided mile gallop yesterday. He finished a neck in front of Sherlocks (Sanderson) and about a length and a half clear of Celtic Chief (Mein), recording Imin 46 2-ssec for the distance and 53 2-5 for the last half-mile. Vodka Lad (Mein) and Meneleus (Low) were paired for half a mile, run easily in 55 l-ssec. Vodka Lad looks bright and strong and should take beating in the Novice Stakes at Oamaru.

Doraldo (Reuben) and David William (Tucker) ran their mile in Imin 47 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 51 3-ssec. Doraldo is a place prospect in the steeples at Oamaru after a fourth at Waimate last time out.
