Black Charm May Repeat Success
“The Press” Special Service WANGANUI. Black Charm worked in handsome fashion at Wanga* nui yesterday morning and is obviously in the right fettle to complete a double for the Awapuni meeting by winning the Manawatu winter handicap. The Takanini visitor was sent out to graze for two days after her Palmerston North Handicap victory last week-end and yesterday’s sprint was her first fast assignment since. She went over a round on the soft No. 1 grass and sprinted from the three in SBsec. which was easily the fastest for the morning. Puggy ground might trouble her this Saturday but
her chances will soar if there is any rain. Wanganui stables have three likely maiden hopes in the Highbury Plate—Whitlock, Velocette, and El Fox. all of which acquitted themselves favourably.
Whitlock, with the inside run* ning. had a neck to spare over Velocette at the conclusion of their half*mile in 53 2*ssec. the last three in 39 4-ssec. Both were travelling easily. El Fox was not hurried to register 56 4-ssec, and 42 2-ssec fdr the same assignment. He looks particularly well and is better drawn than the others.
His Lordship, which will resume at Egmont, took 56 3-ssec for a half-mile, the last three in 41 4-ssec. He will improve with the outing.
