ELECTRA FLIGHTS

Christchurch Link Ending

Electras will be taken off the Christchurch-Melbourne route on June 30 to make way for an all-jet service. From July 1, when Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport comes into service, this Tas man route will be flown by Air New Zealand DCBs and Qantas Boeing 7075. Nineteen years ago. almost to the day, Air New Zealand (then T.E.A.L.) ran its first DC4 flight from Christchurch to Melbourne. Later there were DC6s; then the Electras. With the introduction of the jets, Air New Zealand expects to see a substantial increase in passengers and cargo. The last Electra flight will probably be marked by some form of function at the airport. '
