Railway Restaurant Hours
Sir,—Could you publish the hours of service of the restaurant at the Christchurch Railway Station? At 6.10 this evening four persons were told by a cleaner that it was closed.—Yours, etc. A. R. WRIGHT. June 8, 1970.
[Mr R. A. Mitchell, district manager of the refreshment branch of the Railways Department, replies: “There are regulations precluding cleaning, which includes sweeping of the restaurant, during the period customers are in occupancy. Commercial cleaning has been carried out on two days a week (days on which there is no sailing of t h e Lyttelton - Wellington ferry service) between the hours of 6.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. This was considered a suitable hour because of lack of patronage at this time. We regret any inconvenience caused to your correspondent and in future we will be arranging for the restaurant to be cleaned after the normal closing time of 7.40 p.m.”]
