Aid For Prisoners’ Families
Sir,—l was interested to; read Mr Stoop’s reply to “Be-; wildered’s” letter (1) Does P.A.R.S. get notification immediately a man with dependants is committed to gaol? (2) If so. does it then send a woman visitor immediately to see if they can help, materially or otherwise? (3) Was the $5OOO worth of goods mentioned made up entirely of new goods, or were donated goods included? Mr Stoop says he regrets that such a case could have arisen, but 1 think that if the P.A.R.S. was doing its job properly this situation could never have occurred.—Yours, etc., PERPLEXED. June 8, 1970.
[Mr E. Stoop, field officer of the Prisoners’ Aid and Rehabilitation Society, replies: “I invite. ‘Perplexed’ and the previous correspondent ‘Bewildered’ to discuss the matters raised in the above letter with me personally. I am not prepared to enter further into detailed public correspondence regarding the domestic matters of my society.”]
