The career of Vai Doonican has been described as the quiet success story of show business, but his relaxed air is deceptive. More than 19 years as an entertainer lies behind the professionalism that makes it all seem so easy.
“The Vai Doonican Show” screens from CHTV3 on Friday night. Vai Doonican came up the hard way - concert parties, one-night stands and commercial radio in Ireland, followed by variety, cabaret and broadcasting in Britain. In television he has climbed steadily to the top. At a time when beat groups have monopolised the charts, his songs have reached the top of the hit parade. Vai Doonican has the gift of being able to put people at their ease, which makes him an ideal host. His guests include Svend Asmusson, Marion Montgomery, Dave Allen, The Adam Singers, The Gojos, Sheila Hancock, The Smothers Brothers and The Beverley Sisters.
