RANDOM REMINDER
TRIPLE ALLIANCE
There’s always something new happening in this strange world of ours, and nothing more
spectacular than a family luncheon led recently to another entry in the record book.
Three of them were to be there—father, mother, and a married son. Father was out about his lawful occasions when he remembered he was due home for lunch, so drove off to his residence. When he swung into the drive, he
noted that his son’s car was already parked there. He drove past it to park, then remembered that he would almost certainly be the first away again, so backed down the drive again, past the other car, and almost to the gate. It was while he was executing this manoeuvre, and had in fact only just left his son’s car a few inches behind, when Mother, no doubt in a hurry because she was probably expected to provide the food, swung into the drive. There were two unfortun-
ate collisions. One between His and Hers, the second, on a vigorous rebound, between His and Son’s. It would not have been even faintly amusing had anyone been injured; and damage to three motorvehicles is never funny. But the insurance firm extracted just a grain of pleasure from it all, because, according to our informant, it was the first time it has ever had to handle claims for damage to three cars under one policy.
