BEAUSET READY FOR AWAPUNI

“The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH*. Beau set schooled so well at Awapuni yesterday morning that his jockey, H. Rauhihi, has elected to ride him in tomorrow’s Melford Hack and Hunters* Steeplechase. Beauset will be Rauhihi's first ride over fences for a year.

Rauhihi needs five mounts over fences to qualify for highweight races later in the season. He tried Beauset and was most impressed. “He won’t only get round. He’ll win/' said Rauhihi after his school over five of the steeplechase fences with Green Summer and Master Leigh. The three took the fences safely then finished the work down the inside trial with Beauset far superior to the others Green Summer was safe enough and so was Master Leigh. Although he jumped carefully Beauset should hold them safely on race day. Beauset was brought down on the first day at Wanganui. He took no harm from the mishap and looked very-fit this morning. The heaviest fog for years obliterated the training tracks yesterday morning and it was not possible to time any gallops. Royal Blue looked the most impressive of the flat horses. He went with Flying Crest and Aeolian over five furlongs and although Flying Crest was just ahead at the finish it was Royal Blue which really took the eye by the manner ‘ he completed the task.

“He’s done so well since Wanganui that I will have to run him on Saturday," said his trainer. J. Shaw.

On the way he worked Royal Blue will be .a hard horse'to beat. The track cannot be anything else but very heavy and these conditions will suit Royal Blue But the track might prevent Aeolian from starting. Flying Crest is also doubtful. N. Eales has no rider for him as R- B. Marsh had an earlier engagement for Chill. Prove It. Jacks Bay and Paddy's Escort schooled well over three fences then picked up Dingus and ran seven furlongs on the course proper. Dingus had earlier jumped two hurdles with D Foley in the saddle. Prove It. a visitor from Gisborne. took the big fences in his stride and should make a good showing in the Melford Steeplechase The others all jumped well.
