Cup Final Postponed
The weather succeeded in doing what the New Brighton club’s protest failed to accomplish—a postponement of the Gillette Chatham Cup (Canterbury area) final, which was scheduled to be played at English Park last night between Brighton and Western.
The Canterbury Football Association yesterday decided to give the saturated ground a chance to dry out, and has listed the final to be played next Monday. Brighton, claiming that it had a long list of injuries and a heavy commitment of fixtures after its replayed semi-final against Shamrock on Monday, had asked for the match to be postponed until next Wednesday, also sending a copy of its protest letter to the N.Z.F.A.
The request was refused by the Canterbury F.A., an action called a “dogmatic attitude on the part of its members" by the president of the Brighton club (Mr R. Storer).
