in-charge, Dunedin; and Detective Inspector E. T. Mitten, officer in charge of the Beard murder inquiry, who is to take over control of the C. 1.8. in the south of the South Island. Constable A. H. Stapleton, of Christchurch, was presented with his clasp and star for 35 years of police service. Others who received long service awards were: 21 years —Sergeant R. G. Gar'gett and Constable Rosalie Sterritt; 28 years—Constable H. A. Plumridge; 14 years—lnspector W. J. Perring, Sergeant R. J. Crooks, Sergeant J. D. Burrell, Constables R. H. Moore, W. H. McCallum, D. J. J. Back, L. M. Griffiths, J. S. Brailey, J. G. M. Lardner, and Detective J. L. Marshall. Senior Sergeant W. J. Prentice and Constable L. J. Peterson, one of New Zealand’s first police dog handlers. were also to receive their 114-year long-service award, but were unable to attend the i parade.
