Aust. Stowaways Go Home By Air
(N.Z. Press Association.) AUCKLAND. June 1. Sucking Ice-creams and obviously delighted at the prospect of flying in a jet aircraft, two young Australian boys left Mangere Airport this afternoon for Sydney at the end of a misadventure which began on Friday. The boys were found hiding -under a bed on the liner Oriana soon after it left Sydney on Friday. The boys, David Reed, aged 12, of Smith Street, Tempe, Sydney, and Paul Tabone, aged 10, of Young Street, Tempe, were being
flown home at the expense of the shipping company. They were accompanied on the flight by a representative of the shipping line. Asked how they came to be on the liner, David said: “I found a couple of tickets (boarding passes) and gave them to the man at the gangway. Then we just walked on. “We didn’t mean to go to sea, we only wanted to have a look over the ship. But when we found it had sailed we hid under a bed in a eabin.” Neither of the boys has been away from home for any length of time before.
