I MR W. WOODGATE I I Mr William George WoodI gate, who died cm Sunday at I the age of 71, had been ah Inactive member of the Hornby I Rugby League Club for 52 I. years. I The Hornby club was I formed in 1917 and Mr WoodI gate first became associated I with it as a player a year I later. He played senior footI ball for 22 years, representing I-South Island as a forward in 1'1927 and 1928 and being a I regular member of Canteri bury teams for eight seasons. Mr Woodgate later coached and selected Hornby senior teams, including that which won the Canterbury championship and the Thacker Shield in 1952. and was Homby’s club captain for several terms. He also held positions with lower grade teams in the club, served on the committee for many years and played a leading role in the financing and construction of the new clubrooms at Leslie Park. Before Mr Woodgate’s retirement as a player, his eldest son. Brent had reached the senior grade. Two younger sons. Grant and Bill, who was a schoolboy Kiwi in 1960, are members of the present Hornby team. Mr Woodgate is survived by i his wife, five sons and a daughter-
