Service For Aged
The Christchurch Methodist Central Mission is to invest! gate the possibility of sponsoring a “Care’n’Call” telephone service for elderly persons living alone. The super♦Hendent of the mission (the Rev. W. E. Falkingham) told a board of management meeting that the idea of the service, which has been successful in the United States, was warmly supported by Senior Citizens’ representatives. The basic idea was that groups of six people undertook to telephone each other daily at a pre-arranged time. If there {was no response the caller would telephone the organiser, indicating that an emergency might have arisen.
