FLYING VISIT

Christchurch had its first visit from one of the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s new Skyhawk ground attack fighters yesterday afternoon although it is uncertain how many actually saw it Almost everyone at the Wigram base was outside to see the aircraft, which was expected over the city between 4.5 p.m’. and 4.10 p.m.

Piloted by Squadron Leader J. Scrimshaw, the Skyhawk appeared ahead of time, about 3.55 p.m., to make a fast pass and a “slow” circuit over Wigram before returning to Ohakea. Because the Skyhawk arrived ahead of time and at such a speed, many airmen at Wigram were disappointed. No reason was given for the visit
