SURVIVAL ASTOUNDS
180 ft Fall By Two In Car
(N.Z. Press Association! AUCKLAND, June 2. A Whitianga policeman said today he was astounded that two men survivad a 180 ft plunge into the Waiwawa River after their car left the Coroglen-Tapu road yesterday afternoon. The two Aucklanders escaped with minor injuries. They were in good condition in Thames Hospital today. They are Brian Wilson, of Pakuranga, and Wayne Anderson, of Glen Innes. Both are from H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel. Constable A. D. Wall said the car had skidded on loose metal. “The drop was about 180 ft and steep,” he said. “They must have been skimming the trees part of the way.” The car landed on its roof, partly submerged in the river. A farmer, who heard the crash, ran to the scene and saw the two men standing beside the car, which was wrecked.
