One Application For Works

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 31

A Wellington firm is the only company so far to put in an application for the proposed new export meat works in the King Country. It is the Gear Meat Company, a New Zealand-owned (firm which owns a 70-acre property at Taumarunui. However, there is pressure from farmers for a co-operative works to be established, probably at Te Kuiti, according to industry sources. It is understood the Meat Producers’ Board has given a Federated Farmers investigating committee in the area up to six months to see whether King Country farmers can raise the necessary amount of capital.
