“NOT N.Z. WAY”
Coaching Coaches
The visit of the Welsh Rugby Union’s official coach, Mr R. Williams, to Christchurch, and whether a similar system (of having a coach for coaches) would be beneficial to New Zealand Rugby, were discussed by the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening.
Mr C. H. J. Rhodes said that as a large number of Rugby players were being lost in primary and secondary schools, New Zealand might have to organise a coaching system where teachers would receive coaching in schools.
The chairman of the committee, Mr C. H. McPhail, said that the pattern of play in Wales was vastly different to New Zealand’s method.
“We do it in a different way and do not want too many manuals,” he said. “New Zealand Rugby is on a competitive basis and is not to be led astray on the academic side of coaching coaches.”
Although Mr McPhail agreed that there were probably some bad coaches, he said that the enthusiasm and the bringing of a team together were more important
Soccer Entry. Cambridge United has been voted into the fourth -division of the English League, ousting Bradford Park Avenue, which had been in the fourth division since 1958. Cambridge, the Southern League champions, polled 31 votes to Bradford's 17.
