N.S.W. Swimming Tour Possible

A New South Wales representative swimming team may make a short tour of New Zealand at the end of August. A letter received by the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association at its monthly meeting last evening from the New South Wales Association said replies were awaited from two other countries regarding overseas tours.

The letter said it was unlikely the approaches made by the other two countries would be accepted because there were too many doubtful points about the tours. The New Zealand association was asked , to regard the letter as a tentative favourable answer for the end-of-winter training tour. The final decision to accept New | Zealand’s invitation would i rely, however, on the replies I from the two other countries concerned. Curry Training Hard A letter from the trainer of I. .1. Curry, a member of the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team, was received, outlining Curry's present form and training: He said at a recent meeting In Canada. Curry had

defeated two Canadians, R. Kastings and R. Jacks, in the 200 metres freestyle. Both swimmers are considered threats to Curry at Edinburgh. The coach added that at present Curry was engaged on an exceptionally hard two-week training programme but because of examinations shortly it was likely the training would have to be tapered slightly.

Ratified.—Two New Zealand short-course records were ratified. Both were established at a training session for the Commonwealth Games team at Wharenui on May 23. They are: Men's 1650 yards freestyle. M. Treffers (Southland). Drain 22.4 sec; womens 1650 yards freestyle. S. Hunter (Canterbury). 19min 16.6 sec.

Chairman. —Mr A. J. Donaldson was re-elected chairman of the assocation's council for the fourteenth consecutive year. Mr G. S. Brockett was elected deputy-chairman
