PLENTY OF SNOW

Record Crowd At Ruapehu (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 31. A record crowd of more than 6000 went to Mount Ruapehu today. The chief ranger at Tongariro National Park (Mr J. Mazey) said the attendance was incredible. The peak period for visitors was normally the end of August after a gradual build-up, but even then the record figure for visitors had been only about 5000.

“Queen’s Birthday Week-end is normally fairly quiet," he said. “But there hasn't been this much snow at Queen’s Birthday Week-end for at least 10 years.” The weather omMount Ruapehu today was good. Mr Mazey said there was snow from the Chateau up.
